Yarmouth Coastguards shortest ever search

YARMOUTH COASTGUARD ORGANISE THEIR SHORTEST EVER SEARCH FOR MISSING PERSON

Girl paralysed by rare illness

A GIFTED young horse rider from Banwell is stranded almost 100 miles from home after being left paralysed from the head down by a rare illness.

Abby Rout, aged 20, was out on a college reunion in Hampshire when she was struck down by the sudden spinal condition transverse myelitis.

The equine student was unable to move muscle below her head just two hours after initially losing feeling in her hand and dropping her handbag.

Maritime boost

All three of Burnham-On-Sea's marine rescue services have benefited from a year of fundraising at a Brean bar.

Lionels final resting place

The images below were taken by a diver who discovered a 600lb mine in Swanage Bay. Portland Coastguard were contacted who then informed the Royal Navy bomb disposal unit.  The World War II mine had become a nice home for a lobster, who would not let the divers remove him. Portland Coastguard nicknamed the lobster 'Lionel', and Lionel became quite the media star in the press that followed.  The mine was then detonated as part of a controlled explosion, unfortunately with Lionel still inside.
